Dear Dr. Davis:

I am writing to express my interest in the fellowship program at Educational Policy Institute at the

suggestion of Dr. Policy Professor. After several years in secondary education, I am pursuing a Master’s

of Science degree in Education Policy from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of

Education. As a result, I have the opportunity to combine my interest in education reform with a growing

set of analytical and research skills that I hope to leverage in policy work. Courses such as Foundations

of Urban Education, Program Evaluation and Policy Analysis, Education Finance Policy, and U.S. School

Policy and Reform have been very helpful in this regard.

In my previous experience as an math teacher and student advisor at Achieve High School, I grew in the

understanding of the plight of many students in underserved areas, especially as it relates to access to

information about STEM careers. Based on this exposure, I became interested in utilizing solid analysis

to inform education policy as well as the program implementation that emerges from it. Currently, I am

serving as a research assistant for a professor who is conducting a study on how various Head Start

programs correlate with academic achievement of middle school students.

I greatly appreciate the action research framework that Educational Policy Institute has designed and I

am eager to develop my skills in education policy analysis over the next two years. I would welcome the
